QUINNESEC, MI– Verso Paper has completed a $45 million renewable energy project at its mill in Quinnesec. The project includes upgrades to the milland#226;and#128;and#153;s boiler, installation of a new biomass handling system, and a new turbine generator. Officials say the upgraded boiler will allow Verso to use wood-based biofuel for more than 95 percent of its on-site electricity generation. The handling system also enables the mill to process residual biofuel like bark, tree tops, and limbs. Twenty-eight megawatts of green energy is being produced for mill useand#226;and#128;”equal to the amount of electricity used by 18,000 homes in one year. .
